Sustainability Series: Building a Resilient Portland

March 26 @ 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm

The significant coastal flooding caused by the storms in January 2024 underscored the urgency needed to make our city more resilient in the face of climate change. Join Troy Moon, City of Portland Sustainability Director, and members of the Portland Sustainability Team to learn about additional actions the city has taken to improve resilience and about initiatives that are just getting started. We’ll discuss updated sea level rise information, infrastructure vulnerabilities, and proactive solutions to increase community resilience. Don’t miss this opportunity to ask questions and hear more about the innovative strategies shaping our city’s climate-ready future.

Interested in more about this topic? Envision Resilience is an exhibit on display in the Community Gallery at the Downtown Branch through March 15. Curated by local artist Brian Smith, the Envision Resilience: Designs for Living in a Changing Climate exhibition features innovative and adaptive architectural and landscape design concepts by student teams that took part in the 2024 Envision Resilience Portland and South Portland Challenge.

Portland Public Library and Momentum Conservation co-host the Portland Sustainability Series. Sustainability is the endurance of systems and processes through time. The Portland Sustainability Series presents a diversity of speakers to share different aspects of the work moving Maine to greater endurance and sustainability. Please join us as we engage in these important issues and conversations!
