Portland Sustainability Series – VIRTUAL EVENT: The Sense of Wonder
April 22, 2020 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm
Earth Day April 22, 2020 Virtual Book Discussion Event from 5:30pm-7:00pm
Rachel Carson’s, The Sense of Wonder
This Earth Day, Portland’s Sustainability Series is switching gears and hosting a virtual discussion of Rachel Carson’s, The Sense of Wonder book. Originally published as a magazine article in the 1950’s, it details Carson’s philosophy that adults need to nurture a child’s inborn sense of wonder about the natural world.
“If a child is to keep alive his inborn sense of wonder,” writes Carson, “he needs the companionship of at least one adult who can share it, rediscovering with him the joy, excitement and mystery of the world we live in”.
The Sense of Wonder is a refreshing antidote to indifference and a guide to capturing the simple power of discovery that Carson views as essential to life.
The Sense of Wonder by Rachel Carson, is a short read, only a 48 page long book with an introduction by Linda Lear and photographs by Nick Kelsh. It is available in cloudLibrary as an e-book and an audiobook.
